entire story
Even as Saginaw lost more than 10 percent of it citizens — more than 7,000 moved away since 2000 — violent crime continues to climb, up more than 50 percent in 2008 compared with 2000, FBI statistics show. The annual violent crime statistics stretching back to 2000 expose the troubles.
The 2008 numbers released in September — the most recent available consolidating crime statistics for more than 8,700 communities — show that once again, as it has each year since 2003, Saginaw ranked as the No. 1 most violent city in America. The ranking is based on violent crimes per person in the nearly 850 cities with populations greater than 40,000
The funny part about this is that I recently moved from Saginaw to Huntsville, AL. When I lived in Saginaw you never really heard about the crime unless someone at work told you about the shooting that occurred in front of their house the night before. Now that I live here in Huntsville it seems like all they talk about on the news is crime. If I didn't know better I would think Huntsville must be like the worst city of earth, but i believe they are just obsessed with it down here. I believe Madison county, which is the county I live in has the most churches per capita and perhaps the increase in churches coincides with the increased focus on crime because it reminds them of reading the bible. (lol) On another note it snowed around 5 snowflakes and all the school are closed. It makes me giggle seeing as I was just in Michigan last week and it seemed to snow the entire time I was there.
